Jacob’s trickery against his twin brother Esau came back upon him.  He was tricked by ten of his sons, who sold his son Joseph into slavery in Egypt. God blessed Joseph, and he went from being an imprisoned slave to becoming a leader in Egypt, second only to Pharaoh.  Jacob’s family moved to Egypt to escape a seven-year famine that Joseph had predicted and had prepared Egypt to endure.  In Egypt, the family of Jacob/Israel eventually became a large population, but they were enslaved there for four hundred years.  Egypt is like the world of sin that enslaves and entraps us.  Joseph stands out as an example of one who was not entrapped by the world but was a Christ-like witness to the world of his day.  He is a pattern for us to follow in our Christian walk.
